The model looked beautiful in a long, flowing dress and heels that made her look like the tallest woman ever photographed. She was advertising the dress, but Kim wasn’t looking at it. Instead, her eyes were fixed on the model’s face. She held the magazine up and showed it to Mackenzie, who didn’t skip a beat running her nail file over her nails behind the desk.

“See her teeth?” Kim asked. “That’s exactly how I want mine.”

Mackenzie looked up and squinted at the magazine, then at Kim. “What’s wrong with your teeth? They’re nice and straight.”

“They’re not white enough,” Kim said, glancing back down at the magazine. “I want them to sparkle like they do in this.”

“Honey, her teeth aren’t that white,” Mackenzie said. “They’ve been photo edited like crazy. Don’t believe everything you see in magazines. Your teeth are just fine the way they are.”

Kim bit her bottom lip and continued to flick through the magazine. “I just wish I had enough money to get my teeth whitened, and maybe I could do something with my lips.”

 Mackenzie rolled her eyes. “Now your lips, too? Come on now. You’re fine the way you are.”

The door opened and both women looked up. It had been a quiet day so far, and appointments were few and far-between. They weren’t expecting anyone, and they very rarely got walk-ins at the salon, so both were surprised to see this handsome man enter.

He pulled off his shades to reveal deep, brown eyes. He had short, blond hair that hung slightly over his forehead, the kind that made Kim want to play with the tassels with her fingers. “Hello,” he said with a smile. Although his eyes were beautiful, Kim was drawn to his grin, compelling her to smile back.

“Hi,” Kim said. “Can I help you?”

He slid the shades into his jacket pocket. “I came to set up a massage appointment. I received a gift card, so I thought I’d give it a try.”

“Of course!” Mackenzie nudged Kim out of the way with her hips and grabbed a pen. With a grimace, Kim stepped back and let Mackenzie handle it. She wasn’t about to start arguing over a guy with him standing there.

“When can we fit you in?”

“I don’t know how it works,” he said. “This is my first massage. Do I have to set an appointment and come back or can we do this right now?”
