Mari took another sip of wine, knowing she’d have to get back to work soon. Working from home had its benefits, and being able to enjoy a drink or two in the middle of the day was her favorite benefit.

Her friend Shelly emerged from the bathroom after a glass of wine, herself. “I better get back to the office. Those of us still shackled to our jobs don’t get to sit around and drink all day like you do.”

Shaking her head, Mari laughed. “Come on now. You make it sound like working from home is just one long vacation. I have tasks to take care of just like anybody else.”

“Oh, yeah? What kind of task involves a blonde wig?”

Mari blushed. “Oh, my God. How did you find that?”

“I was looking for a pen and I opened the wrong drawer, apparently. Now explain yourself. What part of being a financial consultant requires you to wear a blonde wig?”

Mari’s voice quieted to almost a whisper. “Well…this stays between you and me.”

“Of course. Now spill it.”

“Look, let’s be honest. After eight years of being married to an insurance salesman, my sex life could use a little…boost.”

“I get it. So you bought a wig, huh? Nice touch.”

“Well, actually Parker bought it. He came home with it one day and suggested we try out some roleplay. He’s like, ‘how about if you call yourself Candy and play the part of a ditzy blonde?’ I went along with it, and to be honest, our sex life has never been better. As soon as I put that wig on, he can’t keep his hands off me.”

“I’m surprised you’re so comfortable about all that. Most women would let their insecurities get in the way–especially when it comes to their husbands fantasizing about another woman.”

Mari lifted an eyebrow. “What do you mean another woman?”

“Well, I assume he’s thinking about Candy. That woman in her twenties who works at the building next to his office–” Shelly’s mouth fell open. “Oh, my God. You don’t know about Candy?”

“No…I don’t. Tell me.”

“I really have to get back to work.” She tried to slip away but Mari pulled her back.

“You can get back to work after you tell me.”

Shelly shrugged. “There’s not much to tell really. She’s just this cute blonde who works in the store next to Parker’s office. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence he chose the name Candy.”

“Yeah and the blonde wig too? Is that just a coincidence?”

“I’m sorry, Mari. Please don’t take it out on the messenger.”

Mari sprang to her feet and put her jacket on. “Don’t worry. I won’t. But Candy better watch out.”
